Mudassar Nazar as head coach can revive Pak cricket: Zahid
January 10th, 2010 - 2:46 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Islamabad, Jan. 10 (ANI): In the wake of Pakistan’s dismal Test series loss against Australia, former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Zahid has called for a complete overhaul in the national side and the PCB.
He has suggested the appointment of Mudassar Nazar as the head coach, saying that the former batsman would whip the team into shape.
“The board need to have two men in overall control of team coaching. I would recommend to the Board to appoint Mudassar Nazar as head coach and Waqar Younis as his assistant. Mudassar knows the mentality of the Pakistani cricketer and I’m sure he would whip the team into shape,” he wrote in his blog on Pakpassion.net.
Zahid blamed lack of matchwinners in the current Pakistan batting lineup for the no show in Australia.
“You have players in the team who do not deserve to be anywhere near the team. Players such as Faisal Iqbal, Salman Butt, Misbah ul Haq and Imran Farhat should not be touring Australia. These players are only being selected due to outside influence,” he wrote.
“Selection in the Pakistan team is currently based on who you know, who can back you up and how influential they are, rather than how good you are at cricket,” he added.
Zahid feels that Mohammad Yousuf’s captaincy lacked the killer instinct in Sydney.
“The killer instinct was missing in Sydney and you have to hold the captain responsible for that. Instead of forcing home the advantage of having Australia in effect 80 for 8, the Pakistan skipper sat back and allowed the Australians to fight their way back into the match,” he said.
According to Zahid, Younus Khan should be made captain of the test team, while Shahid Afridi should be skipper of the one day team. (ANI)
