New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) Delhi Daredevils will have plenty of catching up to do when they take on Sri Lanka’s Wayamba Elevens in their second Group D match of the Champions League Twenty20 here Sunday.
Daredevils have to recover from the seven-wicket drubbing they received at the hands of Victoria Bushrangers if they want to stay alive in the tournament. Daredevils new skipper Gautam Gambhir said they can still comeback in the torunament.
“Now we have nothing to lose and hopefully, the next time we get into the field we will put on a much better performance. If we play to our potential, we should cross the line in the next game against Wayamba,” said Gambhir.
Most of the players could not come to terms with the low and slow Kotla wicket.
“It was not an ideal pitch to play a Twenty20 game. We did really well in bowling and fielding. We executed our plans to perfection. Our fielding, partcularly, was outstanding.”
The positive thing for Daredevils was that Virender Sehwag looked in good touch.
Wayamba Elevens, the winners of the Inter-Provincial Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka, are lead by Jehan Mubarak will see the likes of international stars Mahela Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis and Farveez Maharoof turning out.
In the first match Sunday, Australia’s New South Wales Blues will take on England’s Sussex Sharks in a Group B match.
The Blues comfortably won their first match against Diamond Eagles by 53 runs.
The Australian team, packed with international players, had a perfect start to the tournament and would be the favourites against Eagles. Brett Lee looked menacing with the ball and skipper Simon Katich showed the way with a fluent half-century.
England’s domestic Twenty20 champions Sussex Sharks are yet to start in the tournament. The Sharks, led by Michael Yardy, have explosive striker Luke Wright. Piyush Chawla will be the Indian face in the English team.
