MSLTA Women’s Tennis: Arantekin upsets Luz

Aurangabad, March 8 (IANS) Qualifier Seda Arantekin of Turkey saved two match points to upset fourth-seeded Barbara Luz of Portugal while seventh-seeded Italian Sephanie Scimone eliminated No.3 and compatriot Nicole Clerico to enter the singles semi-finals of the Endurance-MSLTA $10,000 ITF Women’s Championships here Thursday.

Top seeded Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia and second-seeded Thai Peangtarn Plipuech also made it to the last four in contrasting style.

In one of the best matches of the day, 17-year-old Seda packed off Luz 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(8-6) in a three-hour thriller. Luz led 6-4 in the tiebreak before the tall and lanky Turk, keeping her cool, took four consecutive points to make it to the last four.

In the semi-finals, Jakupovic will meet Seda while Plipuech takes on Scimone.
