Moradabad’s kanwariyas undertake pilgrimage, write songs to cheer Team India
March 2nd, 2011 - 6:53 pm ICT by ANIMoradabad/ Kolkata, Mar.2 (ANI): A group of ‘kanwariyas’ from Moradabad have undertaken a pilgrimage to pray for the victory of the Indian cricket team in World Cup 2011.
The ‘kanwariyas’ walked hundreds of miles to Haridwar, to fetch waters of the holy Ganga Rriver for prayer rituals, which will be held in their hometowns.
Bearing the holy water in ‘kanwars’ (earthen pots), they said they are ardent cricket fans and sought the blessings of Lord Shiva for the Indian team.
“I have brought this ‘kanwar’ only for Team India. And I have high hopes that this time India will win the World Cup tournament. I have even prayed to Lord Shiva for this,” said Shubham Goyal, a ‘kanwariya’.
The fans decorated their ‘kanwars’ with posters of Indian cricketers, and held placards bearing messages for the team.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, a musical band composed a song to cheer team India.
“We have written this song with the motive of encouraging the Indian team, so that the team performs well and wins the World Cup this time. The theme of our song is that we are proud to be Indians and we are proud that Team India is performing well at the tournament,” said Tanni Dutta, the lead singer. (ANI)
