Montgomerie expects Tiger Woods finish in top five at Augusta National

London, Apr 7(ANI): Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie predicts that Tiger Woods can only finish in the top five of the first major of the year, which gets underway at Augusta National today.
“Whether he pulls on a fifth Green Jacket or not is now dependent on others - and that is not something we used to say about him at Augusta,” the Independent quoted Montgomerie, as saying.
“For him to win he will probably need other players to perform below their best - particularly Phil and Lee [Westwood], who were both so impressive last year and will be very confident of playing well again. It is a case of, ‘Welcome to the world of the mere mortals, Tiger’,” he added.
Montgomerie further said that it would be fascinating to see how the 35-year-old plays this week.
“When he finished fourth at the Masters last year it was probably the only time we have seen anything like the real Tiger since he returned after all his troubles,” the 47-year-old said.
“I cannot wait to see how he does on Thursday. If he shoots 75, I think we will all be nodding our heads and saying this is another major he isn’t going to win. But if he shoots 67 or 68, then it’ll be ‘Wow! Now we have a tournament on our hands’,” he added.
Woods has won 14 professional major golf championships, the second highest of any male player, and 71 PGA Tour events, third all time.
He has more career major wins and career PGA Tour wins than any other active golfer.
He is also the youngest player to achieve the career Grand Slam, and the youngest and fastest to win 50 tournaments on tour. (ANI)
