Monday Night Raw: ‘Summerslam’ Ends, ‘Night of Champions’ Begins
August 24th, 2010 - 3:09 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonAug 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) As Monday Night Raw began last night, the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus came out holding on to the WWE Championship belt, telling the audience how spoiled American children are, and including his rival, Randy Orton in the list of spoiled American babies. He emphasized that the WWE General Manager should not give in to the spoiled whing of Orton and should never give him another shot at Sheamus’s title.
Just then, the GM emailed in, and told Sheamus that he should be rewarded for retaining his WWE Championship. The GM had a throne brought out for Sheamus to sit in, to watch a series of matches throughout the night. At the end of the night Sheamus will be allowed to come forward and announce who his opponent will be for the ‘Night of Champions’ event in which he will defend his title. Sheamus was quite happy with the arrangement, as the first contestant came out. “You think you know me,” was heard as Edge’s music began to play.
The “Rated ‘R’ Superstar’ looked ready for war as ‘R Truth’ came out rapping “What’s Up?” Sheamus watched on as though he were king of the WWE as Edge and R Truth battled it out. And Edge finally holds his opponent down for a three count, as Sheamus looked on from his throne. Edge turned to address him, and told Sheamus, “Until you beat a nine time champion, until you beat the man who led WWE team to victory at Summerslam, until you beat the ‘Rated ‘R’ Superstar’, you haven’t beaten anybody.”
Sheamus continued to watch as several other matches were fought in the WWE ring. ‘The Great Khali’ went up against ‘Chris Jericho’ and the 420 pound Khali looked very formidable, seeming to be twice as tall as the much shorter ‘Y2K’. Jericho locked in the ‘Walls of Jericho’ and Khali, who had an already injured knee tapped out. Jericho too addressed Sheamus, and told him that Edge is not the first undisputed champion, nor is he the one who just made a giant tap out. Jericho went on to tell Sheamus that he should be the one picked to battle for the belt, just as Khali threw Jericho out of the ring.
After the Divas Champion, Melina came out and beat Jillian, ‘The Miz had a mouthful to say about John Cena, who had stated the Miz almost cost the WWE team the win at Summerslam. Miz also said that he is not worried about who Sheamus picks to defend the belt against, “Because I can have Sheamus anytime I want,” Miz exclaimed, alluding to his “Money in the Bank” briefcase.
‘The Miz’ came out to the ring as Sheamus watched to see who his opponent would be. And who stepped out but John Cena! The battle was sure to be a good one, as these two have much bad blood between them! Miz was on fire as he knocked Cena to the floor of the ring several times, but Cena came back quickly and held Miz down for a two count. Miz came up and quickly pinned Cena for his own count of two.
Sheamus watched with a serious look on his face as these two enemies battled it out. And with a ‘You Can’t See Me’ followed by a ‘Five Knuckle Shuffle’ it seemed as though Cena would surely win it, but Miz came back strong and had Cena for yet another two count. Daniel Bryant ran out to the ring, attacking Miz, and costing Cena the win by disqualification as 6 referees came out to make Daniel leave.
As WWE Champion was backstage deliberating over what he had witnessed last night in order to make a decision as to who he would choose to defend his title against at the upcoming Night of Champions event, there was one more main event battle to be fought in the WWE ring. As a break ended, he was back once again, upon his throne, to watch the last match of the night. It was a triple threat match between Ted Dibiase, John Morrison, and Randy Orton.
As Randy came out onto the stage, he smiled a wicked grin and turned quickly to Sheamus, who stood and backed away slightly before Orton continued to the ring. After not much time at all, Orton won the match, but Sheamus had already vacated his throne to rush backstage before Orton could come for him again,.
Sheamus then came out to make a very surprising announcement. He informed everyone that he was not going to worry about who he would defend his title against, because he was going to defend it right now. So he decided to go “out of left field” and pick someone who has never before had the opportunity to be the WWE Champion. Sheamus called out Zack Ryder, and within seconds, Sheamus pinned the young wrestler for a three count, and maintained his WWE Championship. After the big win, he announced that he does not have to defend his title for another 30 days.
Wade Barrett of Nexus interrupted, and came out to the ring to inform Sheamus that although legally he did not have to defend the title for another month, that Wade won the right to have a title opportunity at the Pay Per View of his choice, and that he would take that at the Night of Champions. The GM emailed in right at that moment, and stated that he upholds Wade Barrett’s request. However, the Championship will be defended in a 6 pack challenge with Jericho, Barrett, Orton, Edge, and John Cena. And with all of these men in the ring, the 5 other contenders began to beat Wade Barrett down much like Nexus has done so many in the past.
