Mohit maintains lead in JK Tyre Junior Cup Formula Maruti racing

Chennai, April 23 (IANS) Championship leader Mohit M. Aryan (Wallace Sports) survived a crash and bounced back to nurse his lead in the JK Tyre Junior Cup Formula Maruti racing series here Saturday.

With another three races to be run in the fourth round Sunday, Mohit leads teammate Chetan Korada by 23 points and looks set to clinch the championship that will earn him a fully-sponsored drive in the Formula Swift class at the National championship later this year.

Mohit and Somesh Reddy had a contact in the very first lap of the first of the three races Saturday, exiting the short loop, leading to the former’s retirement. In the event, Chetan took the honours, finishing ahead of Varun Nathwani and Alisha Abdulla.

Nathwani won the second race, pushing Chetan to second spot while Alisha again finished on the podium and Mohit, starting from the pitlane, moved from seventh to fourth at the finish.

In the day’s last race, Mohit, starting fourth on the grid, made places to eventually come out on top and extend his championship lead.

“On Sunday, my aim is to drive sensibly and finish among points so that I can win the championship,” said Mohit.

Race 7: Chetan Korada (Wallace Sports ) 1 (10mins, 27.5secs); Varun Nathwani (Wallace Sports) 2 (10:32.1); Alisha Abdullah (Rams Racing) 3 (10:39.9).

Race 8: Varun Nathwani 1 (10:15.1); Chetan Korada 2 (10:16.0); Alisha Abdulla 3 (10:20.5).

Race 9: Mohit M Aryan (Wallace Sports) 1 (10:17:7); Varun Nathwani 2 (10:17:8); Alisha Abdulla 3 (10:18.6).
