Mangalore, May 19 (ANI): Celebrations erupted at Sarang Mohammad Naeem’s home in Karnataka after he was released by his kidnappers in Afghanistan on late Saturday night.
His parents rejoiced on hearing the news. Sweets were distributed and prayers were offered at his home in Mangalore.
Afghan security forces rescued the two kidnapped road workers each from India and Nepal in a raid on Sunday.
The pair was abducted from a vehicle while travelling on a highway on April 21 in the western province of Herat, which borders Iran. Both of them work for the Dubai-based HEB International Logistics.
Sarang Mohammed Hussain, the father of Naeem said that his son was released after paying ransom to the kidnappers.
“After some days, the kidnappers, demanded some money from the company director, he agreed and then paid the money to the kidnappers. They promised to release the men within two days. After receiving the money, the kidnappers released my son,” said Hussain.
According to the officials, the two were recovered from a cave in Herat’s Shindand District where the Taliban and criminal gangs are active.
Naeem is married and has three children.
His abduction has further raised concerns about the safety of Indians in Afghanistan. Earlier on April 12, a suicide bomber targeted a road construction crew killing two Indian workers. (ANI)
