Modi takes exception to being called ‘the then chairman’
May 11th, 2010 - 11:31 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 11 (IANS) Lalit Modi, suspended chairman and commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Tuesday took strong exception to Indian cricket board secretary N. Srinivasan referring to him as “the then chairman” while announcing the appointment of Bharat Patel as adviser to interim IPL chairman Chirayu Amin.
“I am still the chairman and commissioner of the IPL and at the moment just suspended. I would request you to issue an immediate clarification to the media in this regard,” Modi said in an e-mail to Srinivasan.
Srinivisan said in a statement Tuesday: “Mr. Bharat Patel, former chairman of Proctor and Gamble, is being appointed as the honorary advisor to the interim chairman of IPL, Mr. Chirayu Amin.”
“Mr. Bharat Patel was associated in setting up of Indian Premier League in 2008 in an advisory capacity to the then chairman.”
Amin, a vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was appointed interim chairman after the board president, using his constitutional powers, suspended Modi minutes after the IPL final April 25 on charges of financial irregularities and behavioural issues.
