Michael Vaughan unlikely to be included in Englands Test squad for Windies tourDecember 29th, 2008 - 2:55 pm ICT by ANI
London, Dec 29 (ANI): Selectors are most unlikely to consider Michael Vaughans name for Englands Test squad for the upcoming West Indies tour.
According to a report in the Telegraph, Englands former captain is hoping to get picked for the Caribbean trip, which leaves on January 21, but is likely to be disappointed.
The selectors might not pick Vaughan because of his poor run at the county level, with a handful of games with Yorkshire yielding nothing to boast of , and the batting he intended to get with Englands Performance Programme in India being thwarted by the atrocities in Mumbai.
If the selectors decide not to include Vaughan, they are almost certain to continue with Ian Bell and Owais Shah for the tour.
But, Bell has been limp and out of sorts, while Shah, Englands in form batsman during the one-day series in India, has never really been given the chance to bat there in Tests.
This may mean the inclusion of a fresh face, perhaps either Ravi Bopara or Rob Key, when the squads are announced.
In case he is not selected for the Caribbean tour, Vaughan would have to wait for next summers Ashes.
As Englands only Ashes-winning captain of the past 20 years, Vaughan has never been given the chance to re-contest them due to a series of knee injuries a chance he wont get unless he scores big runs for Yorkshire next season. (ANI)
