Sydney, Mar 6(ANI): Australian batsman Michael Hussey has been recalled into the 15-man World Cup team a month after he was ruled out of it due to injury.

It comes a week after fast bowler Doug Bollinger returned home after sustaining an ankle injury in the defending champions’ seven-wicket win over New Zealand in their Group A game.

“Michael has successfully recovered from major hamstring surgery and is seen as someone who is capable of assisting Australia as we strive to win this tournament,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, as saying.

“His skill, experience, ability against spin and the fact that he provides a left-hand option in the middle order is seen as critical in our World Cup defence now that he has successfully recovered from injury,” he added.

Hussey was earlier dumped from the final squad after being considered too big a risk following his surgery on a hamstring tendon last month.

The 35-year-old had sustained the injury during Australia’s ODI series against England.

Australia’s remaining World Cup matches are against minnows Kenya and Canada on March 13 and 16 in Bangalore before playing Pakistan in Colombo three days later. (ANI)
