Miandad turns down Pakistan batting coach offer
April 10th, 2011 - 11:58 am ICT by ANIKarachi, April 10(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director General Javed Miandad has declined the offer to take up the role of Pakistan’s batting coach, limited-overs captain Shahid Afridi has said.
Afridi said that Miandad was asked to serve the national team as a batting coach, but he refused, Samaa TV reports.
Last week, Miandad had confirmed that PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt had contacted him to help the batsmen, but he had told Butt that he could not take official responsibilities as Pakistan’s batting coach before the West Indies tour, starting from April 13.
“I have always made myself available to serve Pakistan cricket team in any way I could. I have told them that I would give tips to the players. But I can’t take responsibilities as a batting coach before the West Indies series because there is no time left to do anything special,” he was quoted, as telling PPI.
The veteran of 124 Tests and 237 one-dayers had also said that he does not feel right in intruding when a coach might already be working out his strategies with the team.”Waqar (Younis) would be having his own plans and it doesn’t look good to jump in meanwhile. So joining the team at such a time wouldn’t do any good for the team,” he said.
Miandad had also said that he was not an ardent supporter of the concept of having more than one coach, as it would confuse players. “I think they (players) may find it difficult to connect with more than one person and it may lead to confusion,” he had explained. (ANI)
