Miandad to wait till end of West Indies series before considering Pak batting coach offer
April 6th, 2011 - 1:11 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, April 6(ANI): Former Test cricketer Javed Miandad has confirmed that Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt had contacted him to help the batsmen, but he told the PCB chief that he could not take official responsibilities as Pakistan’s batting coach before the West Indies tour, starting from April 13.
“I have always made myself available to serve Pakistan cricket team in any way I could. I have told them that I would give tips to the players. But I can’t take responsibilities as a batting coach before the West Indies series because there is no time left to do anything special,” The News quoted Miandad, who is also the Director General of the PCB, as telling PPI.
However, the batting legend said that he would join the Pakistan team during practice and would give tips to batsmen to help them ahead of the West Indies tour.
Miandad, who is still the highest run-getter for Pakistan with 8,832 runs in 124 Tests, helped the team in getting over their batting woes in 2009 and 2010, but declined to tour with the team because of business commitments, and said that he does not want to interfere in head coach Waqar Younis’s job.The veteran of 124 Tests and 237 one-dayers said that he does not feel right in intruding when a coach might already be working out his strategies with the team.”Waqar (Younis) would be having his own plans and it doesn’t look good to jump in meanwhile. So joining the team at such a time wouldn’t do any good for the team,” he said.Miandad also said that he was not an ardent supporter of the concept of having more than one coach, as it would confuse players. “I think they (players) may find it difficult to connect with more than one person and it may lead to confusion,” he explained.
