Miandad declines to be batting consultant for Pakistan team

Karachi, Dec 1 (IANS) Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has declined the job of batting consultant for the tour of New Zealand after being told by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that he would have to report to national coach Waqar Younis.
Miandad, currently serving as PCB director-general, was interested to work as batting and fielding consultant in the lead up to World Cup 2011 but has now backed out as he wants more authority.
PCB sources told IANS that Miandad never wanted to report to Waqar, the Pakistan coach who had played under Miandad’s captaincy.
Miandad is of the view that because he is senior to Waqar and is also placed on a top PCB position, he won’t be able to report to the coach.
Miandad, however, officially maintained that he cannot travel to New Zealand with the Pakistan team because of his personal commitments.
Miandad said in an interview Wednesday that he can help out Pakistan’s batsmen to iron out flaws in their technique at a training camp that will get under way in Lahore from December 8.
Pakistan are scheduled to leave for New Zealand mid-December to play three Twenty20 Internationals, two Tests and six One-day Internationals. Pakistan is giving a lot of importance to the tour as it will help them finalise the preparations for World Cup 2011.
