oudinIn what can be described to be quite an eventful scenario, rising teen tennis sensation, Melanie Oudin has dislodged veteran Maria Sharapova, to pave her way ahead in the US Open 2009. It does not appear to be very shocking anymore though, considering the way in which the 17 year old has been steadily rising ever since the June of this year.

She exuded an excess of confidence when she strode on to the court of the match that was scheduled on Saturday. It was her confidence that has been quality that set her apart ever since her debut. It also led the announcer to announce and introduce her as “America’s newest tennis sensation!”

Melanie’s boyfriend, Austin Smith was also present at the venue to witness the historic encounter that took place between Oudin and Sharapova. When she started the match, no one was expecting her to actually beat Sharapova, but surely had looked forward to a great display of histrionics. Oudin however, packed in a whole lot more for her fans and countrymen when she achieved the commendable feat of beating Sharapova. The upset victory over the Russian ace is just going to prove to be another milestone in the young Oudin’s professional career.

After the match, the 29th seeded Sharapova said, “Just couldn’t decelerate today. I was hitting second serves no less than 95 miles per hour. I even tried to hit it less, and I just couldn’t.”

The 70th ranked player from Marietta, Ga, beat Maria Sharapova 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, in one of the most important matches for her countrymen in the US open.
