Medal Of Honor Recipient Salvatore Giunta Recognized In Super Bowl

Feb 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It always involves a lot of pride to be an Army serviceman. Yesterday in the Super Bowl event, which is considered as the biggest sports event in the United States, the content was not just limited to football. The organizers also paid a tribute to one of the proudest living recipient of Medal Of Honor, Salvatore Giunta, who received this award from President Barack Obama himself, last year.
Medal Of Honor, is regarded as a highest award to be received by an army member, and Salvatore Giunta proved to be one of the most deserving recipient for this recognition, for his valiance during the Afghan War in 2007. On October 25, 2007, he made his name enlisted in the history, by fighting against the nations’ enemy and rescuing his squad. Reportedly, his squad was ambushed by a group of insurgents. But the soldier was determined to rescue every member. He moved ahead with the rest of the army, and after a point, he took his sole initiative to plunge into the fire. Although the enemies fired at him, to Salvatore Giunta, was undauntedly determined and retaliated back with a more fierce fight. After he reached the estranged soldiers, he found himself being carried away by a few insurgents. However, he killed one of them and injured the other, to finally accomplish the mission.
Twenty five year old Salvatore Giunta, is regarded as the first living Medal of Honor recipient, after the Vietnam War. Several other army men in the United states have been recognized with it before, but all posthumously. As he was introduced to more than 100,000 audiences in the Cowboy stadium in Arlington, he was greeted with a warm and loud welcome. He attended the event as one of the guests of honors.
