Matt Leinart vs. Vince Young: Face-off in the NFL

Aug 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Vince Young and Matt Leinart have not faced each other on a football field since the 2006 Rose Bowl for the national championship, that is, of course, until now.

As Young, and his team, the Texas Longhorns passed Lienart with his USC Trojans to score 41-38 in a captivating back and forth game. The Longhorns took the national championship and broke the 34 game winning streak which the Trojans had boasted before the game. Both of these fresh new quarterbacks were, of course, considered to be prime candidates for the upcoming NFL draft. They were chosen by the Titans and the Cardinals.

However, after this, a very upsetting three seasons followed for both players. Leinart was troubled with injuries, and with Kurt Warner back with the Cardinals, Leinart spent a great deal of time on the bench, after starting eleven games as a rookie in 2006.

Young, in a very similar line of events, lost his job as starter in 2008 to Kerry Collins when he suffered a knee injury which left him out of commission for a while. He has re-emerged, however, as the starting quarterback for the Titans, and led the Tennessee team in a four game winning streak since the season began, while Collins played under center.

While Leinart is making his first start since the year 2007, he will be hoping to prove himself as the Cardinals franchise quarterback, as they hoped he would be when they took him as 10th overall and gave him a contract worth 51 million dollars. Young will be attempting to defend the Titan’s winning streak, adding even more clout to his Hall of Fame credentials.
