July 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Los Angeles Lakers signed a two years contract with veteran swing-man Matt Barnes and the news was announced yesterday by the player himself in a reputed social networking site. Matt Barnes was one of the coveted free agents left on the market and Los Angeles Lakers picked him up for $3.6 million for next two years. However, he did not mention the terms and conditions of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The veteran swing-man in his homepage of a reputed social networking site announced that it was official that he will now be called as a player of Los Angeles Lakers and then he thanked all his fans for their patience and understanding. For the player it was his dream come true. Some news sources say that Los Angeles Lakers would pay him $1.7 million for the next season and $1.9 million for 2011-2012. The sources also say that the Cleveland Cavaliers had offered him $7 million for two years over a team option for the third season, but the player wanted more guaranteed money to sign with a contender which has not won any championship. Hence, Cleveland Cavaliers dropped their plan to sign in Matt Barnes.
Los Angeles Lakers has also signed Theo Ratliff yesterday for one year deal for $1.35 million. The combination of both the players will surely give Los Angeles Lakers an upper hand in the coming season. Matt Barnes appeared in 58 games last year with Orlando Magic where he averaged 8.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in each game. Matt Bernes announced earlier this week in the social networking site that he would be joining Toronto Raptors, but the deal fell through and he joined Los Angeles Lakers.
