Oct. 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New York Yankees won a stunning victory against the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series. The stars of the game were Hideki Matsui and Mark Teixeira. They hit solo homers against Pedro Martinez, righthander of the Philadelphia Phillies. This was one of the few successes they had enjoyed against the player. Their performances brought a 3-1 win for the Yankees in the Philadelphia World Series.
Mark and Matsui hit off two solos against the Phillies righthander. Their performance had been the turning points in the series in which the Yankees’ performance had not been too good. Teixeira’s hitting had been quite disappointing in this particular season, although his fielding has been nothing less than spectacular. He tied the score at 1-1 against Martinez in the fourth innings. His performance turned out to be valuable for dual reasons. He managed to tie the score, which somewhat secured the match for the Yankees. It also brought back for the Yankees their confidence, which had been lacking badly.
Matsui’s hitting was quite spectacular too. He hit a home run in the sixth innings of the game. There is no doubt that his score definitely swung the ball in the Yankees’ court. Martinez had already taken the lead at 0-2 by that time. Of Martinez’s throw, Matsui says that it was “pretty low and inside.” It was a second curve-ball by Martinez and Matsui agree that he had to make some adjustments to hit the ball. He is happy that his calculations paid off well. Martinez said that he wasn’t comfortable with the pitch and that it led to the results.
