Mary Kom to spearhead India’s women boxing challenge in Asian Games
September 22nd, 2010 - 10:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) Five-time world champions M.C. Mary Kom will lead the Indian women’s boxing challenge in the Asian Games at Guangzhou, China in November.
For the first time in the Asian Games, Mary Kom will be taking part in the 51 kg category, which is also the minimum weight category that has been included in the 2012 London Olympics.
Besides, Mary Kom, Preeti Beniwal (60kg) and Kavita Goyal (75kg) are the other boxers who are in the team.
The team was selected after the trials held at the Talkatora Stadium.
This is the first time women’s boxing have been included in Asian Games and it will make its Olympics debut in 2012 in London.
