Apr 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova on Wednesday, during an interview to a media source revealed that she is suffering from breast cancer. The nine-time Wimbledon tennis champion mentioned that the cancer was detected during a mammogram test. Martina Navratilova revealed that the type of cancer she is suffering from is noninvasive and that after the detection, she had already gone under the scalpel to remove it.
The tennis star is optimistic that she would be cured totally of the disease. She mentioned that the kind of cancer she was diagnosed with is 95 percent curable. Medical practitioners maintain that Ductual Carcinoma in situ which is also called DCIS is in many case 100% curable. The DCIS is according to them the initial stage of breast cancer. Though the surgical process has been completed, Martina Navratilova will undergo radiation treatment soon to cure herself totally of the breast cancer.
She said that she had neglected the mammogram test for years. However being noninvasive the cancerous cells did not spread to the other parts of the body. Medical practitioners maintain that if the cancer is not diagnosed within time, it might become invasive and spread in other parts of the body. This might then become dangerous and even lead to the death of the person. However, according to doctors it has been found that it takes around 10 years for the DCIS to turn from noninvasive to invasive.
Martina Navratilova who had herself done the mistake of not undergoing the Mammogram test, asked each and every woman to undergo the test and not to neglect it. She also mentioned that while she thought earlier that she would not disclose the fact in front of the public, she did later with an intention to increase awareness of common public on the matter.
