martellJune 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Portland Blazers have sent Martin Webster aka ‘The Definition’ to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for the No.16 overall pick, Luke Babbitt. The Portland Blazers will also receive six year veteran forward Ryan Gomes. The President of Basketball Operations, Minnesota Timberwolves, David Kahn said that the moving of Ryan Gomes helped his team clear the salary cap and that the addition of Martell Webster would also bring in a young veteran.

At 6′7″ and 205 pounds Martell Webster became the 6th overall pick for the Portland Blazers in 2005. He signed a $20 million contract with the team in 2006 but missed the 2008-2009 season due to a foot injury. After picking Martell Webster, David Kahn said that they were looking into a variety of departments that included toughness, shooting and defense. Martell Webster is looking at a $10 million deal over the next 2 years and a partially guaranteed contract in 2012-13. He joins Minnesota Timberwolves best shooter Wesley Johnson and adds the necessary depth to the side that has lacked it significantly in the last few seasons. The Ryan Gomes and Martell Webster deal happened between David Kahn and Portland Blazers’ Kevin Pritchard in an awkward situation as the latter was fired from the Portland team shortly before the start of the NBA drafts but asked to complete his duties for the evening.

The 23 year old Martell Webster was picked from Seattle Prep School in 2005 and has an average of 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in the 82 games that he has played for the Portland Blazers. He scored his career high of 28 points earlier this year against the Detroit Pistons. He is also called ‘The Definition’ because of his surname that refers to a highly popular dictionary.
