markSept 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban on Tuesday confirmed to media sources that Mark Ingram will not be taking to the field this week against the San Jose State. The Alabama Crimson Tide is scheduled to open the season against San Jose State this week. Mark Ingram had reportedly injured his left knee during the Team’s practice session late on Monday. Nick Saban also said to media sources that the player had undergone an arthroscopic procedure for the injury. The coach seemed hopeful that the player would be returning on field within a week’s time.

Mark Ingram had played a major role in the success of the Alabama Crimson Tide last season and his absence from the field against San Jose State might have some impact on the performance of the team. However, according to sports analysts, the absence will more likely affect the personal career of Mark Ingram than it would the play of the team as a whole. Mark Ingram who had won the prestigious Heisman Trophy for his play last season could have become the only player to join Ohio State running back Archie Mason Griffin as the only two-time Heisman Trophy winners.

The Alabama Crimson Tide, that went to win the national title last season, can still hope to reign this season if in absence of Mark Ingram, sophomore backup Trent Richardson comes up with some good play. Trent Richardson last season had run 751 yards and scored eight touchdowns. It includes his 49-yard touchdown and 109 yards run against the Texas during the national title game.
