Oct 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Organizers of today’s much awaited event, “Marine Corp Marathon”, has assured a more stringent security system and better safety measures, during the course of the race. The route along which the marathon will be taking place will witness an increase in the number of security measures. The cause of this sudden enhancement in the prevention is of course the three recent shootings at military facilities in Northern Virginia.
On Friday morning, the FBI discovered bullet holes at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The FBI says that the gunman has some grievance against the mariners, but he is less likely to hurt anyone. Chris Layman, spokesman for the Pentagon Force Protection Agency said that there is otherwise no risk or danger involved in the event, but still they would like to take some preventive steps more than the usual, to ensure a safe and secure race. The FBI reported that they will be investigating the shooting, after they deduced a connection between the two incidents of October 17 and October 19 shooting at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle and the Pentagon complex in Arlington respectively, with the help of the same weapon. This was again followed by the third shooting at Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Chantilly. All of them were targeted at the US defense. The investigators are not expecting any civil danger, as no one was hurt in the last three shootings. Therefore, they found no reason for the race to be canceled.
The Marine Corps Marathon will begin at 8:00 AM on Sunday, starting from the south of Arlington Memorial Drive and would end in Iwo Jima Memorial. The race is expected to attract more than 30,000 runners.
