Marcus Thames Snatches Win For Yankees

g-spt-100517-yankees-815phmediumMay 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Marcus Thames hit a 2- Run home run to steal a victory from the claws of defeat in the ninth innings against The Boston Red Sox. This was Marcus Thames’s third game ending hit in his career and this one came against Jonathan Papelbon who gave away 4 runs in the final innings. The Yankees were trailing 9-7 in the 9th innings when A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez) hit a tying homer to bring scores at par. Thames replaced the injured outfielder Nick Swisher. This was the Yankee’s 5th victory out of 7 games against the Boston Red Sox.

It was a thrilling night for the Yankee newcomer Marcus Thames. His wild game-ending hit made him a star in New York overnight. Crowds gathered near his house to celebrate the victory. For Alex Rodriguez though final innings drama is nothing new. For Marcus Thames it was surreal experience to win a game for his new team. One being asked by the media he said that he was aware of the rivalry between the two teams but it was a different experience altogether to be a part of it. Marcus Thames came in the Yankee team this season after playing for Detroit Tigers since 2004.

The game had its share of ups and downs. The Yankees gave a blazing start and were 5-0 up at one point. The Boston Red Sox pulled up the game by the 9th inning to 9-7. The final inning fetched 4 runs in total, ending the game at 11-9 to the Yankees. Marcus Thames was greeted with the customary cream pie on the face by Yankee teammates after the game.
