Maradona sees a World Cup star in Messi

Kolkata, Dec 6 (IANS) Soccer legend Diego Maradona feels Lionel Messi would be the player to watch out for in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.”Messi has years to go. He will have 10 years more to improve,” Maradona told the media here Saturday, when asked to compare Brazilian Ronaldinho and the Argentinean.

“On the contrary, Ronaldinho has seen a lot, and earned a lot,” Maradona said.

Maradona believes Messi would be in great from at the World Cup. “He will do a good job,” Maradona said about the Argentinean star who plays for F C Barcelona.

Asked what he enjoyed more - playing or coaching the Argentine national team - Maradona said: “I’ve enjoyed a lot as a player. I am utilising the experience which I have gathered in coaching the side. Argentina is a great team. I am only trying to maintain some equilibrium.

Comparing Italian Serie A and Spanish La Liga, he said: “La Liga is tougher.”

On whether he had any regrets, Maradona said: “I went through a bad phase. I couldn’t spend time with my two daughters. I hope to correct that in future,” he said.

The Argentine great maintained his ‘hand of god’ goal in the 1986 World Cup as his best. He said the 1986 Argentine side, which won the World Cup, was the greatest team that the Latin American country had fielded during his playing days.

Maradona categorically said it was not proper to compare him to god. “God is supreme. May be, I am the God of football, as some people call me. But God is the ultimate’.
