Maradona again slams Bilardo

October 23rd, 2009 - 3:09 pm ICT by IANS Tell a Friend -

Buenos Aires, Oct 23 (DPA) Argentina coach Diego Maradona again slammed technical secretary Carlos Bilardo, as he awaited a decision from FIFA on his recent outburst of obscenities.
Maradona accused his former coach Bilardo of having plotted to bring down Julio Grondona - who has led the Argentine Football Association (AFA) for over 30 years - along with media and football businessman Daniel Vila.

“There is a campaign against Grondona here. Vila and Bilardo wanted to bring down Grondona,” Maradona said.

He said Vila turned his media against him as coach once they were unable to harm Grondona directly.

Vila owns the television channel America, which employs the journalist that Maradona attacked most personally during a controversial press conference in Montevideo.

The coach further insisted that he would not take guidance from others when it comes to the team, and blamed Bilardo for allegedly wanting to play the role of coach again.

Last week, minutes after he at long last had secured a place in South Africa 2010 for Argentina with a 1-0 win over Uruguay, Maradona lashed out at reporters.

The football world’s governing body, FIFA, has said it will evaluate events with a view to possibly taking disciplinary steps against the fabled 1986 world champion footballer.

AFA said they would not take disciplinary action against Maradona.
