Mancini happy Man City will not face ‘200 percent’ Rooney
April 8th, 2011 - 1:34 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 8 (ANI): Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is happy that his team will not have to face in-form Manchester United’s ace striker Wayne Rooney, who has been ruled out of next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final.
The FA upheld United striker Rooney’s two-game ban for swearing into a TV camera, so he misses the clash with local rivals City.
Mancini said: “At this moment Rooney is not 100 per cent, he is playing at 200 per cent.”
“But if he can’t play, okay! We know he can change a game at any moment like when we played at Old Trafford this year. That day we deserved to draw or to win and Rooney scored a fantastic goal,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
In a statement, Rooney said: “I am gutted to miss two matches, I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won’t be the last.
“Unlike others who have been caught swearing on camera, I apologised immediately. And yet I am the only person banned for swearing. That doesn’t seem right.”
Rooney’s ban, which starts against Fulham tomorrow, gives Mancini and City a huge boost.
The England star has made a habit of scoring key goals against the neighbours - including his overhead kick winner at Old Trafford in February. (ANI)
