London, Aug 21 (ANI): Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has been criticised for not developing good relationships with club players.

Midfielder Stephen Ireland, who switched from City to Aston Villa, said: “Did I talk to him? Not at all. Mancini does not build relationships with players.

“He brought in Patrick Vieira and when I spoke to him about his relationship with Mancini he said he doesn’t really have one - and he has worked for him for seven or eight years.”

“I think that’s the way he is. He has everybody a bit on edge. The last time I had a relationship with a coach? It’s got to be Mark Hughes,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

“I don’t think loyalty is much in anyone’s mind at Manchester City. I felt like I would be next to be shown the door. A lot of players felt like that as well, the homegrown guys. I felt I did need a new challenge and it’s only a positive thing for me now to be here at Villa,” he added.

Mancini, who replaced Hughes last season, once said Ireland needed to ‘change his head’ in reference to the midfielder’s attitude. (ANI)
