London, Apr 6(ANI): Manchester United stars have been left “shaken and upset” over the murder of football-mad 12-year-old schoolgirl Tia Rigg.
Tia was found strangled and stabbed after visiting her uncle John Maden’s home to watch United play Chelsea on Saturday.
“To hear how this local young girl died has shaken a few players. Their hearts go out to Tia’s family. Most players have young families and were upset. United is a family-orientated club,” The Sun quoted a club source, as saying.
Meanwhile, Maden, the brother of Tia’s mother, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Detectives charged him with Tia’s murder and he will appear before a Manchester City Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
A post mortem examination concluded that the 12-year-old died as a result of ‘ligature strangulation and a series of stab wounds to her stomach.’
Police have so far declined to release information about the murder weapon, or who made the emergency call. (ANI)
