Manchester City’s wage bill crosses 100-million-pounds mark
August 2nd, 2009 - 5:55 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug. 2 (ANI): Manchester City’s whopping annual wage bill has crossed the 100 million-a-year pound mark.
Kolo Toure’s arrival at Eastlands means that salaries at Manchester City have doubled in two years.
And it also means that owner Sheikh Mansour has a half billion dollar commitment in wages alone over the next four years, News of the world reports.
Robinho (160,000 pounds a week), Emmanuel Adebayor (150,000 pounds), Carlos Tevez (150,000 pounds), Gareth Barry (120,000 pounds) and Toure (120,000 pounds) are the top earners.
And in addition to their astronomical salaries, the City players are currently negotiating a win bonus structure for the new season.
City’s CEO Garry Cook claims the spending on players like Adebayor is short-term cash for long-term gain.
But rivals Manchester United have warned City face an uncertain financial future.
United’s CEO David Gill said: “We don’t believe it make sense to pay huge amounts for 27 or 28-year-olds. You won’t get a return. We keep salaries at 45-50 per cent of turnover.”
City’s current wage bill is more than their 90 million pounds total yearly turnover.
Boss Mark Hughes has spent 200 million pounds on players - with more to come - and owner Sheikh Mansour’s total input is approaching one billion pounds. (ANI)
