Man U teammates knew weeks ago about Ronaldo’s Real Madrid moveJune 20th, 2009 - 3:33 pm ICT by ANI
London, June 20 (ANI): Serbian star Zoran Tosic has admitted that ace striker Cristiano Ronaldo told his Manchester United pals about his move to Real Madrid before the Champions League final.
Ronaldo insisted he wanted to stay at Old Trafford, but his United teammate Tosic says everyone knew about Ronaldo’s world-record 80 million pound move well in advance.
“Yeah, I spoke with Cristiano. He told us he’d won all the awards and he wanted to try something else. I think in Madrid he’s going to be the best player in the world again. Last season he scored 42 goals and this time 25 - and they all said it’s his worst season, that it wasn’t enough!” The Sun quoted Tosic, as saying.
Tosic, 22, was gutted to see the superstar winger quit, but knows that with Ronaldo out of the way he will get his chance to impress - and potentially fill those magic boots.
Tosic is in Sweden aiming to help Serbia’s Under-21 side go one better than their defeat to Holland in the final two years ago.
Tosic is one of Serbia’s biggest football names and his rise to fame is all the more amazing considering he grew up in the middle of a vicious war following the break up of Yugoslavia. (ANI)
