Man running cricket betting racket arrested
March 11th, 2011 - 12:03 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 10 (IANS) A man, operating a betting racket during the ongoing cricket World Cup to recover his gambling losses, has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Rakesh Jain, 39, was arrested Wednesday from his house in Rohini area of north Delhi. He was a betting addict and had incurred huge losses by betting on cricket matches over the years.
“He was running the racket in his flat and was caught during the India-Netherland match on a tip-off. Earlier, he had suffered a loss of Rs.60 lakh forcing him to shut down his factory in Narela in north Delhi. He was running the racket to recover his losses,” said a police official.
Police have recovered an LCD TV, a laptop with broad band connection, mobile phones, said an official.
“He was accessing the site webfair.com for obtaining latest fluctuating rates for betting on World Cup,” police said.
