Man City owner convinces Tevez to stay
December 21st, 2010 - 1:05 pm ICT by ANILondon, Dec 21 (ANI): Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak arrived at the club’s Carrington training ground to speak directly to Carlos Tevez and solve the striker’s problem.
The striker withdrew his transfer request at a meeting with Al Mubarak and chief exec Garry Cook before last night’s home defeat to Everton.
Tevez told Manchester City fans that he will stay and then saw Everton wreck the club’s dream to top the Premier League table.
“Tevez staying is important. But it’s the only good news of the night,” The Sun quoted boss Roberto Mancini, as saying.
Al Mubarak and Cook faced all the issues head-on with the Argy striker and without the presence of his advisor Kia Joorabchian, who the club blames for the whole affair.
Tevez issued a transfer request two weeks ago, with Joorabchian claiming the club had gone back on certain promises.
But those problems were ironed out and put down to a failure in communication.
Mancini said: “It’s very important for everyone at the club, for the squad, for him. We are happy that is all sorted and we can move on now. It’s not really important what I said to him. What was important was that the situation was cleared up quickly.
“Carlos is a world-class player whose contribution since he joined has been invaluable. I am pleased we can now focus on football and look forward to Carlos playing a signficant part in our progress. We are frustrated because we had a big chance to go top.” (ANI)
