Among the sports event that has caught every body’s attention, the new skate boarding championship called the Maloof Money Cup has gathered quite acclaim since its premiere last year. The organizers have come back with the championship again this year which have started from July 10 and will be over on July12. This three day championship will present a five event competition and festival and is being held in its earlier location, which is the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa, California.
The first day kicked off with the preliminary stages and practices with the champion of last year, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, who was seen practicing late in the half pipe.
On the day one, more than 30 street skaters gathered for the competition at course that looked like a city plaza. Gagnon has already pre-qualified for the finals in Sunday without undergoing the qualifying rounds that was held on Friday.
Hailed as one of the greatest skate boarding championship, its expected that that the skaters will be tested beyond just skating in a half pipe. Besides continuing to show their skills through tricks and flips, the skaters have to drop down a foot ramp, will have to sail on to a handrail, grind cross it before dropping into the half pipe.
Gagnon was quoted saying,” It’s definitely not easy to get everything down in such a short amount of time. We’ve only been skating this for like three days now.”
Like the previous year too, this year the winning amount will be $75,000 and in the street competition the prize money is $100,000.
