Karachi, Feb 17 (IANS) Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam is pleased with the way former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik is supporting his successor Younis Khan ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka.
A former Pakistan captain, Intikhab said Younis has already got the support of the team ahead of the two Tests against Sri Lanka that begin Feb 21 at the National Stadium.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sacked Malik as captain after the hosts suffered a 234-run drubbing at the hands of Sri Lanka in their one-day series final in Lahore Jan 24.

Intikhab said he is expecting positive results from the team though they have not played a single Test in 14 months. Pakistan’s last Test was against India in Bangalore in Dec 2007.

He singled out comeback leg-spinner Danish Kaneria as a key player for Pakistan in the series.

Kaneria has taken 220 wickets from 51 tests and needs 16 more wickets to surpass Abdul Qadir - a former Test leg-spinner who is currently serving as Pakistan’s chief selector - as the most successful Pakistani spinner in test history.

“Spinners always play important roles in the sub-continent,” said Intikhab. “Kaneria will be an important player in the series against Sri Lanka. He is working hard and I’m hoping he will give a good showing.”
