Malaysian Open squash: Pallikal goes down fighting in round one

New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) India’s Dipika Pallikal lost a closely fought first round match to higher-ranked Kasey Brown of Australia to bow out of the $60,000 Malaysian Open squash in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday.

Pallikal, ranked 26th, has been making rapid strides in the international arena and did well to make it to the main draw of this premier event. She eventually lost to a better player in world no. 6 Brown 11-6, 4-11, 11-13, 11-7, 3-11.

The 19-year-old had defeated 17th ranked Jaclyn Hawkes of New Zealand in the qualifiers Tuesday.
