New York, Oct 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Major League Baseball playoffs got underway last weekend and the New York Yankees started as expected with a win against the Detroit Tigers. The next game between the two teams was expected to come off on Monday but it was pushed back a day because of the weather.

On Sunday, the Tigers leveled the series 1-1 after they beat the star-studded Yankees 5-3. Detroit’s closing pitcher Jose Valverde was very influential in the game. He crowned a stunning game by taking out the Yankees biggest threat on the night, Robinson Cano. The Yankees were closing in on the early lead taken by the Tigers with some powerful play by Cano. However Valverde stopped the surge when he stopped Cano after he had given the Yankees two outs and runners on the first and second bases.

Though the Yankees are still preferred to win the series against the Tigers, anything should be expected. Incredibly, the odds are heavily against the strong team when the MLB playoffs are concerned. In the last 20 years, only three of the teams who have the best record coming into the playoffs have actually won the series.
