bryce-harper-verducci The MLB drafts this year showed the 70’s trend with selection of several high-school students. There has also been a few surprises especially in the top 10.

Bryce Harper went to the Washington Nationals as the first overall pick. He has already been hyped as the “Lebron James of Baseball’ and has a reputation behind him. His hiring also comes as a surprise considering that he is a Scott Boras client.

Scott Boras has bigger ambitions for the hugely talented youngster. The thing to watch out for will be how Bryce Harper matures as an outfielder. He is presently a catcher for The College of Southern Nevada.

18 year old Jameson Taillon was the second overall pick from Texas by the Pittsburg Pirates. He is a right handed pitcher who is considered the most exciting prospect in the drafts.

The high-school kid has some elevation and poise issues but he is expected to be free of them in the months to come. The only concern for the team will be his power delivery which is similar to the ones of Kerry Wood and Jaret Wright and has the potential to cause injuries. At 6′7″ he is said to have exceeded 99mph and also has a good curve ball.

Another surprise selection was Manny Machado. The 17-something is reputed to be a solid player with plus bat potential that is expected to improve with time. He dominated the under 18 tournament and has the perfect mix of soft skills and strong hands.

None of the experts though could predict that he will be such an early pick.
