Jan 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In the wake of former Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin’s decision to leave the Volunteers and join University of Southern California, speculations have been running high regarding the successor of Lane Kiffin. According to certain reports, one of the names that is being pitched to fill the vacancy of the head coach of Tennessee Volunteers college football team is Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith.

As of now the it is being speculated by many that Tennessee might consider going back to the Chicago Bears coach to take up the vacant position. The speculations have been further fueled as many reports have claimed that the 51 year old coach has supposedly been approached by University of Tennessee. However, as of now neither Tennessee nor any representative of the Bears’ coach have validated the claims.

However, this is not the first time that the Chicago Bears coach has got the opportunity to be associated with the Tennessee Volunteers college football team. In 2008,following the termination of then-coach Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee had showed interest in Lovie Smith to take up the position of the head coach of the college football team. However, then the much acclaimed coach had preferred to stay with the Chicago Bears. Meanwhile, whether Lovie Smith would be taking the responsibility of the Volunteers this time around if he has indeed been approached by Tennessee, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has emphasized that if the Chicago Bears coach takes up the new job then it would turn out be the ideal scenario for both the coach as well as the Tennessee football team.
