lakerOct 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The much anticipated season opener for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Houston Rockets was worth the wait for the fans as the game came to a nail biting finish in favor of the host. Prior to the game was the ring ceremony where the players and the coach were handed over their championship rings by David Stern, the commissioner of NBA. Also present at the center of court was Jeanie Buss who also handed over one of the rings to pop icon Justin Bieber, who attended the game.

First to appear on the court was coach Phil Jackson, who raised up the ring in the air and said that this was what his team played for. Considering that this was his 12th ring and the 6th for the Los Angeles Lakers, the celebrated coach was seen all too proud of his side. After the game Phil Jackson said that his team did not play at the right speed in the first half and far too many shots were missed. He added that he was happy with the performance and felt that the ring had emboldened the players slightly in a positive way.

It was a proud moment for the Los Angeles Lakers fans as the players introduced one another at a time after receiving the diamond encrusted over sized ring. Kobe Bryant said that he was extremely happy about the fact that his friend and teammate Derek Fisher introduced him. Chants of ‘MVP’ were heard during his speech and the free throw in the final quarter against the Houston Rockets.
