Local boy Nim Tshering Lepcha to lead United Sikkim

Sushil Kumar Gangtok, July 13 (IANS) Local boy Nim Tshering Lepcha will be leading Bhaichung Bhutia-owned United Sikkim Football Club in the 2011-12 season.

The new-look squad started training Wednesday at the Paljor Stadium here in their bid to qualify for the first division of the I-League.

Seven players from Sikkim, including Bhutia, will be seen donning the jersey of United Sikkim this season. Besides signing three foreigners — Bidemi Daniel and Baba Tundey from Nigeria, and Quinton Jacobs (Namibia), the club has also signed up players from Sporting Club-de-Goa, Churchill Brothers and Salgaocar (all from Goa), JCT (Punjab) and Ar-Hima (Meghalaya).

The club has also signed three national players, Sushil Kumar Singh, Gobind Singh and Thoi Singh from Manipur.

After a two-hour training session here, along with Renedy Singh, Bhutia said the club’s priority is to win the Federation Cup and also qualify for the I-League.

Bhaichung also praised Lepcha and said the youngster deserved to lead the team in the forthcoming season.
