Liverpool’s American owners accept selling club now ‘inevitable’
October 13th, 2010 - 6:34 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 13 (ANI): Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have finally accepted that they must sell the club this month, and promised not to force the club into administration if they win their High Court battle with their rival directors today.
Justice Floyd will rule whether the American duo can legally block the 300 million pounds sale to the New England Sports Ventures group.
Hicks and Gillett have been accused of breaching the terms of their 237 million pounds loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland by trying to sack Anfield directors Christian Purslow and Ian Ayre last week, The Sun reports.
But their legal team admitted before hearing that they have no chance of meeting Friday’s repayment deadline.
Paul Girolami QC said: “The owners, opposed to the outright sale of the club, now accept it is inevitable. Even though administration is a technical possibility, there is no reality of that happening.” (ANI)
