London, Feb 8(ANI): Liverpool and Chelsea could face Football Association (FA) action after an object was thrown at Fernando Torres during Sunday’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.
Torres was subjected to a torrent of abuse from the travelling Liverpool fans after his record 50 million pound move to Chelsea last week.
According to the Sun, the hatred boiled over when an object was thrown at Torres from the away supporters’ end as the striker waited for a corner.
Referee Andre Marriner has recorded the incident in his report, and the FA will now contact both clubs for their observations.
“We are aware of the incident and are awaiting confirmation of the referee’s report,” a Chelsea spokesman said.
The FA had fined Chelsea 30,000 pounds in 2005 when striker Mateja Kezman was hit by an object thrown by visiting West Ham United fans. (ANI)
