Karachi, Nov.15 (ANI): Former Pakistan Test captain Younus Khan is disappointed by the internal politics in the team to such an extent that he has decided not to accept the captaincy again.

Khan, in an interview, said that even if he comes back into the team, there are little chances of him leading the side once again.

“Even when I make a comeback to the team, I see little chance of me becoming the captain again,” said Khan, who opted out of the upcoming Test tour of New Zealand after admitting to having problems with a section of senior players.

Khan admitted that he was going through a rough patch in his career and not able to guide the team.

“The fact is that since I was myself out of form, I was not able to control the team and when you can’t control a team then you should not be leading it.In the current circumstances I am not in a state of mind to lead the team or play cricket,” The Dawn quoted Khan, as saying.

He, however, rebuked reports of him not backing the players and called for an enquiry into such claims.

‘What can I say, but the truth should be brought before the public by the authorities. As far as I am concerned I have never believed in public relations and I have always played my cricket on merit. So, this complaint that I was not friendly with other players is pointless,” said the right-handed batsman.

Earlier, Younus Khan has claimed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt had asked him to continue as skipper when he expressed a desire not to be included in the team touring New Zealand next week.

“He (Butt) wanted me to continue as captain, but I asked him to excuse me,” Khan was quoted, as saying.

While reports in the media suggested that Khan has only taken a break from the hectic schedule, and would come back in the squad following a short break, the former captain himself said that it would be premature to say whether he would be leading the side again or not.

“It is premature to say whether I will captain of the side in the future, it all depends what the situation is,” Khan said.

The PCB has appointed middle-order batsman Mohammad Yousuf as the captain of the Test team for the New Zealand series.. (ANI)
