lindsayVancouver, Feb 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Lindsey Vonn became the champion in women’s Downhill on Wednesday and bagged the Gold medal. On February 10, 2010 she had shocked all her supporters by saying she was uncertain whether she could participate in the Vancouver Winter Olympics. She had earlier said that a severe injury that she had suffered on her right shin during a training in Austria, might prevent her from skiing in the Winter Olympics. This information had given rise to speculations galore. Until last Monday, she allegedly said that her shin was “throbbing really bad.” Fortunately, due to poor weather conditions the game was postponed, giving Lindsey Vonn a chance at healing. She made the appropriate use of this chance. She not only took part in the Olympics but skilfully secured the first position. Lindsey Vonn had earlier been a two-time overall champion.

While Lindsey Vonn got the Gold medal, her American teammate as well as rival Julia Mancuso was right behind her and clinched the silver medal. Lindsey Vonn seemed to be at ease while she was skiing Franz’s Downhill, which she finished in 1 minute and 44.19 seconds. Lindsey Vonn is reportedly the first American to win the Gold medal in women’s downhill skiing in Winter Olympics.

After becoming the champion in the women’s downhill ski event on Wednesday, she said she could not believe when she first looked up and found out her name in the Number 1 position. On Wednesday, after crossing the finish line, she collapsed. She told in a post event interview that she was absolutely overwhelmed. She said, “I didn’t know what to do, so I just fell down.”
