Lehmann backs Ferguson to make Test grade

Sydney, Nov.2 (ANI): Former Test batsman Darren Lehmann says that rising South Australian batsman Callum Ferguson wouldn’t disappoint if he was called up by Australia for this summer’s Ashes.

Ferguson struck a well-made 129 of a 140-od balls in a Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

Lehmann, who played 27 Tests, said 25-year-old Ferguson is ready to play at the next level after recovering from a serious knee injury.

“He’s come back really well. He’s grown of age as a player over the last few years and I think he’s one of those players that will step up to the plate,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Lehmann, as saying.

“The higher he goes, the better he’ll get. He seems to have the game to play at the next level and Australia could do worse,” he added.

Lehmann said: “He seems to be one of their players who’s in form at the moment. He’s made a great 100 here in the Shield game and that shows he’s back to form and full fitness.” (ANI)
