Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar becomes MP

New Delhi, June 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar became the first active sportsperson to become a member of the Indian parliament.

The batsman, who is currently nominated for the Bharat Ratna award, has been sworn into the Indian parliament last Monday. Major figures from the world of art, including a number of writers, have previously been nominated to enter the Rajya Sabha, Indian parliament’s upper house, but Tendulkar has become the first sportsman to enjoy this honour.

During his swearing-in ceremony, he was accompanied by Anjali, his wife, and the MP Rajiv Shukla, who is currently the chairman of the Indian Premier League chairman.

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is considered to be one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He has recently become the first to reach 100 international centuries and is currently the world’s highest Test run scorer.

Tendulkar is also the first player to score a double century in ODI cricket. He was a member of the Indian team who won 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Tendulkar has received the Padma Vibhushan award, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, and honorary doctorates from the University of Mysore and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
