Lee’s Test career suffers a severe jolt
November 17th, 2009 - 9:26 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Melbourne, Nov 17 (IANS) Australian fast bowler Brett Lee’s Test career received a severe jolt as he is likely to undergo a surgery on his elbow and would be out of the game for eight weeks.
The Age reported that if the speedster, who has claimed 310 wickets from 78 Tests, undergoes a surgery then it would put a big question mark on his career.
Lee’s manager Neil Maxwell had already disclosed to the daily that the fast bowler was contemplating retirement from the long format.
“It’s got to be there in his mind somewhere, [retirement from Test cricket] has to be considered. He is still enthusiastic about playing. He will definitely be playing international cricket, but what forms he will play in will have to be decided,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by The Age.
The injury has come from wear and tear on Lee’s right arm - his bowling arm and he was also forced to return mid-way from the ODI series in India.
Lee is exploring alternatives to surgery, which would the fifth of his career.
“If I require an operation to do that, which will only fix the elbow, then yes, I will have to have surgery on it. But I’ll make sure I exhaust every avenue first,” he said.
