Lakra to lead Indian women’s hockey team in Argentina

New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) Asunta Lakra will lead the 18-member Indian women’s hockey squad in two quadrangular international tournaments in Argentina from Dec 7 as part of preparations for the next year’s Olympic qualifiers.

The first tournament will be held in the capital city of Buenos Aires Dec 7-11 while the second will be held at Parana Dec 14-18. Besides hosts Argentina, Ireland and South Africa are the other participating teams.

India have been clubbed with South Africa, Italy, Canada, Ukraine and Poland in the Olympic qualifiers that would be held here Feb 15-26.

South Africa, who had earned automatic qualification for the women’s event, chose to play instead in the qualifying tournament, giving Argentina a lucky direct entry in the 2012 London Olympics.

Ponnamma, Deep Grace Ekka, Rosalin Dung Dung, Rani, Th. Anuradha Devi, Poonam Rani, Vandana Katariya, M. Lily Chanu and Lilima Minz
